Winston-Salem, N.C. Brandon Pierce and Kevin Powell Speed Motorsports (KPSM) delivered a breakout performance Saturday night at Wake County Speedway, gaining significant momentum in the ZMAX CARS Late Model Stock Tour. After starting 14th, Pierce drove the No. 2 machine through the field to secure a strong fifth place finish in the Delta Heating & Cooling 175. The result marks a major step forward for the young team as it continues to establish itself in one of the nation’s most competitive touring series. As a relatively new organization in the series, the performance provides a confidence boost heading into the upcoming event in Nashville.
“I’m really proud of these KP Speed Motorpsorts guys,” said Pierce. “I made a call about lap 87 that we should probably come in and put fuel in it and thankfully we did because so many ran out of fuel at the end. We had a really good race car, I felt like we had a top ten car all night. Me and the spotter talked and deemed to stick to the bottom the rest of the night and that’s what we did, we put the gloves on and battled there until the end and came home with a top five. Just really proud of this kevinsaysyes.com, Polaris Off Road, Bleeker Automotive Group bunch.”
Through just six starts in the series, KPSM is already turning heads with two top 10 finishes and one top five result. The progress follows a productive offseason in which the team strengthened its Late Model Stock program with the addition of Pierce as full-time driver, veteran crew chief Doug “Hippie” Strother, and a brand-new race car.
“I feel really proud of them, Said car owner, Kevin Powell. “They deserve this finish, it was a really long winter building a new car, new driver, new crew chief. What a beautiful facility. Wake County, I love the CARS Tour and I love my teams results tonight with a top five. I thinks it’s just a testament to how hard this team works. The old saying is races are won in the shop and they’ve really worked hard these last two weeks, they came here and tested two different times, they worked really hard yesterday practicing, they were on their A game all day today, mocking up, qualifying, they had good speed in the car and Brandon was phenomenal in the car all day long, Hippie made real good adjustments in the middle of the race and the guys fought, fought, fought! Typical KP Speed guys, I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
Kevin Powell Speed Motorsports will look to build on this momentum at the next ZMAX CARS Tour Late Model Stock event the Tootsie’s Music City Showdown at the historic Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday, April 11. The race will be broadcast live on FloRacing.
