THIRD WEEK IN A ROW WITH A FIRST TIME SPORTSMAN WINNER – MARK MOHR TAKES TOP HONORS

BRIAN MOYER DECLARED WINNER OF KEYSTONE SPORT COMPACT SERIES FOUR CYLINDER MAIN

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. – It was another memory making action filled night of racing on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway, with the Watt family of Boyertown, Pa. stealing the spotlight.

Following a hard-fought side-by-side wheel-to-wheel battle, dad Ryan Watt was able to fight back the challenges of son Logan Watt to score a popular victory in the 30-lap T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment NASCAR Modified feature event.

In the 25-lap T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment NASCAR Sportsman feature, it was Mark Mohr of Gilbertsville, Pa. grabbing the lead from Kenny Gilmore of Fleetwood, Pa. on a lap seven restart, then motoring home to his first career Grandview Speedway win, the third consecutive event that a driver was a first time winner in Sportsman division action.

The Keystone Sport Compact series presented by Hoffman Speed Supplies/Hoffman Discount Parts, saw Jeff Foster cross the finish line first, but his car did not pass the post-race technical inspection, thus giving the victory to apparent second place finisher Brian Moyer in Four Cylinder feature action.

The winners received bonus money (Modified $300, Sportsman $200) from T.P. Trailers and Truck Equipment of Limerick, Pa., sponsors of the two divisions at Grandview Speedway in a race program run under the NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts banner.

Nathan Mohr of Kutztown, Pa. took the lead on the opening green flag, with Bobby Trapper Jr. of Scranton, Pa., Justin Grosso of Hillsborough, N.J., Bobby Gunther Walsh of Allentown, Pa. following, while eighth and ninth starting Ryan and Logan Watt quickly moved into fourth and sixth positions by lap five, while eleventh starting Jared Umbenhauer quickly moved into position five.

A lap nine restart allowed Justin Grosso to power by Mohr and into the lead using the low groove entering turn one, while Ryan and Logan Watt both powered to the top groove to start passing cars to continue advancing to the front.

While this great action was happening up front, Billy Pauch Jr. of Frenchtown, N.J. who started 14th and Eddie Strada of Lake Ariel, Pa. who started 15th were powering their way toward the front with some breathtaking and competitive racing action.

Ryan Watt continued his fast ride around the top lane of the Speedway, grabbing second place on lap nine and eventually caught and passed Justin Grosso for the lead exiting turn four to score lap twelve, with Logan Watt following his Dad’s tire tracks, moving into second one lap later to try and track down the leader.

Just after half-way, Ryan led with Logan trying desperately to reel him in, while Justin Grosso ran a strong third, with Pauch Jr. and Jared Umbenhauer of Richland, Pa. having a back-and-forth battle for position four, with Strada closing the gap very quickly.

By lap twenty, Ryan Watt hit lapped traffic after a long green flag run allowing Logan to close in, while the action behind them really heated up, as Pauch Jr., Umbenhauer and Strada all caught Grosso to put on a fantastic race for the top five spots.

With all this action up front, Duane Howard of Oley, Pa., Rick Laubach of Quakertown, Pa., Mike Gular of Harleysville, Pa. and Craig Von Dohren of Oley, pa., were having their own battle for the remaining top ten positions.

A lap 24 restart set up the dramatic family battle, with Ryan choosing the top lane leaving Logan on the bottom, and following the green, the two put on a clinic, racing three laps side-by-side for the win, with Ryan finally able to shake off his Son’s challenges, while Pauch Jr, Strada, Grosso and Umbenhauer were racing under a blanket for position.

Ryan held firm in the lead over the final three laps, while the positions continued to change behind him in the final frantic and exciting laps.

At the checkered flag Ryan Watt scored his eighth career Saturday night NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts feature win at Grandview, followed by Logan Watt, Strada, Pauch Jr., Umbenhauer, Howard, Laubach, Justin Grosso, Von Dohren, and Gular.

Qualifying heats for the 46 cars on hand were won by Bobby Trapper Jr., Nathan Mohr, Logan Watt and Justin Grosso while Mike Lisowski of Minersville, Pa. and Jax Yohn of Boyertown, Pa. won the consolations.

Mark Mohr had been close to a victory before, scoring a career best second place finish on several occasions, but Saturday night all the pieces fell in line, with Mohr pulling off his first ever Grandview Speedway win.

Rolling out of the fourth starting position, Mohr would quickly move to second spot behind early leader Kenny Gilmore, while Steve Young of Collegeville, Pa., Ebby Ridge of Upper Black Eddy, Pa.,  and Gavyn Krupp of Barto, Pa. were all fighting for positions.

Colin Cox of Perkasie, Pa., the defending track champion, would be quickly advancing through the field from his thirteenth starting spot by running the top groove of the speedway, and reached third position by the time a caution waved on lap seven.

The restart would be race changing, as when the green flag waved, Mohr would be able to power around the outside of leader Gilmore entering turn one, and take over the number one spot, while Jimmy Leiby of Gilbertsville, Pa. would also advance on the restart and move up to engage in a battle with Cox for the third position.

Matthew Laubach of Quakertown, Pa. was also on the move, working through the field from his 21st starting spot, and eventually would find himself in a battle for top ten positions with Ridge, Krupp, Joe Toth of Upper Makefield, Pa., Dakota Kohler of Kutztown, Pa., and Nick Van Wickle of Springfield, N.J.

With only green flag racing following the lap seven caution, Mohr would continue to build a comfortable lead while Gilmore ran second, and Cox and Leiby continued to challenge each other for third.

After all the exciting action in the first half of the feature, the drivers settled into position during the final stretch run to the finish, with Mohr scoring the win, followed by Gilmore, Cox, Leiby, Ridge, Laubach who was the race’s Hard Charger, Krupp, Kohler, Toth, and Van Wickle.

Qualifying heats for the 39 cars on hand were won by Jason Graber of Boyertown, Pa., Addison Meitzler of Kempton, Pa., Kenny Gilmore and Nick Van Wickle while Matthew Laubach and Adrianna Delliponti of Norristown, Pa. won the consolations.

The Hoffman Speed Supplies/Hoffman Discount Parts Keystone Sport Compact Series Four Cylinder 25-lap feature saw Adam Kratzer take the early lead, before Jeff Foster would catch and pass him for the top spot on lap eight.

By the half-way mark, Foster would be leading with Brian Moyer, Kratzer, Larry Eck, and Dan Stein Jr. all fighting for top five spots.

The closing laps would see Foster build a comfortable advantage and go on to score the apparent win, followed by Moyer, Krazter, Eck and Stein Jr.

Post-race tech would change the win to Moyer with Kratzer failing to scale and also being penalized, finding the final top five as Moyer Eck, Stein Jr., Nathan Keim, and Josh Huber, while Shane Flaherty and Jeff Foster won the two qualifying heat races.
