(Minersville, PA 8-2-26) Big Diamond Speedway will kick off the month of August this coming Friday evening with a very special guest on hand.
Catherine Bach, better known for her starring role as Daisy Duke in the wildly popular hit TV series the Dukes of Hazzard, will be in the grandstands for a Meet & Greet with fans prior to the start of the evening’s races.
Bach was a cast member on the Dukes of Hazzard television series which aired from 1979 to 1985 and in a pair of Dukes of Hazzard movies in 1997 and again in 2000. She has also starred in numerous films and television shows throughout her career.
Thanks to the efforts of Jeff Bowers who was able bring Bach to the track for this much-looked forward to affair, plus, Bowers will have his very sharp looking replica of the General Lee on display, a 1969 Dodge Charger.
The race line-up will include the BQ Concrete 358 Modifieds, USAC East Coast Sprint Cars, USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman and the Red White and Blue Autos Inc. Roadrunners.
With his being the final month of racing the championship picture is beginning to clear amongst the division point contenders.
Louden Reimert remains in control of the 358 Modifieds and is looking to make it back-to-back title runs, although nipping close at his heels is Mike Lisowski and Tim Buckwalter who remain withing striking distance. Duane Howard and Logan Watt round out this week’s top-5 in the standings.
In the Sportsman division Ryan Graver is coming off his class leading fourth win of the season and in doing so padded his point lead over Zach Steffey but with the right set of circumstances things can quicky turn given the number of races left to run and not only for Steffey but other current top point-getters such as Dakota Kohler and Matt Martino.
Alex Schoffstall has maintained a steady pace as the Roadrunners point leader. However, he must remain mindful of the drivers close behind him, including Joey Brennan and Jim Kost, second and third respectively in points and are battling each week to finish ahead of him. And not to mention several other top contenders who have also gained momentum in recent weeks, adding further pressure to the championship fight.
General admission is $25, students 10-15 are $10 and under 9 free. Pit admission is $35 for members and $45 non-members. Pits open at 5:00 pm and grandstands at 5:30 pm. Hot laps will begin at 6:45 pm with racing to follow.
Coming up in two weeks on Friday, August 14 will be Back To School Night and Lasting Legends Night. There will be backpacks for the kids filled with school supplies to be handed out while supplies last and there will be face painting too.
This year’s Lasting Legends line-up includes 1993/94 Street Stock champion Bruce Williams, Dick Maberry, a popular Modified star during the latter half of the 1970s, Terry Peters, who competed in Sportsman Modifieds, ace Modified standout Davey Wenger, repeated Street Stock and Modified winner Keith Trumbo and Frankie Burke who not only raced at the track but worked for a stint as the announcer.
Fans will be able to meet up with these driving greats where they will be stationed underneath the pavilion adjacent to the concession stand.
