After a six-week break, The Modified Racing Series has three consecutive weekends of racing that begins with an August 28 date on Oxford 250 weekend, marking the return of a past winner in the starting lineup.
Then it is on to Claremont Motorsports Park on September 6, with bonus money and free tires for the race teams. September 12 will be a special return visit to Star Speedway, as it will mark the 300th MRS event in history, with more special announcements coming for that event in the days ahead.
For the first time since 2023, the MRS will be back at Oxford Plains Speedway to headline the Friday night schedule for the Nitro Trailers 53rd Annual Oxford 250 weekend at the Maine oval. It will also mark the return of Andy Seuss. The Hampstead, New Hampshire native was once a mainstay on the tour, but he has not competed with the MRS since 2016.
Seuss currently spends his days as co-owner of KLAS Motorsports, based in North Carolina. Four years ago he teamed with Massachusetts native Kevin Lapierre and driver Andy Jankowiak, building a successful team to compete in the ARCA Menards Series. Seuss is returning home to race his family owned Modified at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Then after a week in the region he will head to Oxford.
“With Kevin Lapierre’s love for Modifieds too, we’re going to do some team morale stuff between Loudon and Oxford,” Seuss explained. “Kevin spends his summers in Maine and he wants to have a car in the field, so we are going to make it happen on August 28.”
Seuss is a five-time MRS feature winner, including his 2010 victory at Oxford. Richard Savary won the event in 2023, but he has since retired from racing. Jacob Perry, who now works at KLAS won there in 2022, with Anthony Nocella winning the two previous Oxford MRS events.
Claremont is next on the schedule, with R. Smith Oil, Dick Williams and The Racing Guys and their supporters, making that race extra special for MRS competitors. Every team that enters the Sunday night of Labor Day Weekend event will receive one free Hoosier Racing Tire, a value of well over $200 each.
On top of that, they will put extra money into the purse for the top eleven finishing positions to the tune of $1,970. The race winner will get an extra $576, with $376 for second and third place, $276 for fourth, $176 for fifth on down to $76 extra to the eleventh place finisher.
Jon McKennedy won this season at Claremont back in June, but it was Brian Robie winning the Labor Day Weekend event there last season. They will be joined by four of Claremont’s weekly divisions for this special event.
Reigning MRS Champion Brett Meservey currently leads the standings by 17 points over Robie, with Nate Wenzel and Ryan Doucette close behind. For more information on these events check out the Modified Racing Series Facebook page or go to the Oxford, Claremont and Star track web pages.
