We are just three weeks away from dropping the green flag on the 2022 season at Mountain Creek Speedway. Mach 26th and 27th marks the first official points race of the season, and it is anticipated to be bigger and better than previous years. Some defending champions will return, some rookies will move up a class and each year we welcome an all new crop of newcomers in both flat karts and outlaw karts.
Double duty will also be a popular role as drivers such as Karter Beattie, Tyler Buzze, Rhylen Watkins, Billy Corsa and host of others are going to try their hand at competing in both Box Stock and Jr. Wing competition. Buzze, the 2021 Beginner Box Stock Champion from Millbridge Speedway has already been seen turning preseason testing laps at Mountain Creek in preparation for a busy year. Double duty will also mean family teams like the Long’s with Adalyn Owens, The Henneborn’s and the Hammill’s will compete on Saturdays and Sundays as they will try their hands at flat kart and outlaw kart competition.
Flat kart divisions will also grow in size as Saturday nights will have fourteen different classes of racing. Those classes will see returning drivers to the track like the McCleary family, the Rice’s and the Knorr’s just to name a few. Also returning this year will be the format of flat kart racing on Saturday nights and outlaw karts running Sunday afternoons.
One of the most anticipated divisions to be on the lookout for is the new Yamaha 450 Stock division which has been growing in since during the off season. Lou Mattesen returns as the defending champion but he’s going to have his hands full. In a division that began with just four karts last year has grown to about fifteen drivers getting set to take the first green flag of the season.
The first weekend of the year begins March 26th and 27th. Gates for flat kart racing open at 3pm with hot laps starting at 3. Sunday outlaw kart races will see the gates open at 1pm with hot laps beginning at 3pm. When the track isn’t racing, it’s busy Monday through Friday with testing and practice sessions for everything from flat karts to national midgets. The track will also be available for testing and practice days throughout the year.
