GEORGETOWN, DE – We’re back on Friday the 13th!

Georgetown Speedway returns to action on Friday, May 13, remembering one of the speedway’s most popular figures.

The ‘Deron Rust Memorial’ takes center stage at the Sussex County half-mile in honor of the former racer and promoter of the speedway. Rust kept the facility afloat during one of the more challenging times in its history.

The J.W. Brown Logging-sponsored Modifieds will headline the event, going 33 laps for a $3,960 payday and $300 to take the green. The ‘396’ number will be prominent throughout the evening, paying homage to the number Rust dawned on his racecars for many years.

The Rust family continues to assist at every speedway event, keeping Deron’s memory alive.

Boyertown, Pa.’s Ryan Watt claimed the 2021 edition of the ‘Deron Rust Memorial,’ besting a pair of Neshanic Station, N.J., drivers in Matt Stangle and Jimmy Horton for the victory.

The event will be Race No. 1 of the Sunoco Race Fuels Championship Series for the Modifieds, after the postponement of the ‘Melvin L. Joseph Memorial’ in March.

The Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman join the Modifieds, also racing in Round No. 1 of their Sunoco Race Fuels Championship chase. They race for 20 laps and a $1,396 top prize.

Joining the Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman are Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks, and Delmarva Chargers. All four divisions will race in 12-lap, feature-only affairs.

For the May 13 event, pit gates open at 4 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 5 p.m. Hot laps are set to begin at 6:45 p.m. and racing to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $20 for Adults, $16 for Seniors (ages 65 & up) and Students (ages 13-17). Kids (ages 9-12) are $10 admission and Children 8 & under are admitted FREE.

Pit admission is $35 (ages 13 & up). $10 for Kids (ages 6-12) and $2 for Children ages 5 & under.

The night of racing, along with every Georgetown Speedway race in 2022, will be broadcast LIVE on FloRacing (www.floracing.tv).

Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.

A website is live for the speedway at www.thegeorgetownspeedway.com. Like Georgetown Speedway on Facebook, follow @thegtownspdwy on Twitter, e-mail georgetownspeedway@gmail.com or contact the speedway hotline at 302.563.GTWN (4896).
