Anticipation is growing for the newest division coming to Mountain Creek Speedway in 2023. With just six and half weeks remaining until opening night for outlaw karts and micro sprints, some of the 600 micro sprint drivers gave their thoughts on racing at a new facility.

Local racer, Hunter Kohn said, “I definitely want to make a few races this year. It’s good to have another local track to run 600s. Very excited for what this year brings.” Kohn finished second in Saturday points at Millbridge Speedway and picked up his first career win. “I have always seen great things happening over at Mountain Creek.” said Tim Nye, “Adam and the crew do a great job and I’m excited to make some laps over there this season. It’s awesome to see this class grow these last few years! Nye, who built his own car, has won previously in the North Carolina area at Rockfish Speedway

Former NASCAR Cup series crew chief, Kenny Francis who has competed in the past at Mountain Creek with son, Matthew in outlaw karts is excited about the division coming to the track full time. “We are looking forward to trying Mountain Creek in a 600, said Francis. “We enjoyed racing at Mountain Creek in outlaw karts from box stocks to opens over the years.  We may have been the first 600 to run there at a test back in Covid in 2020.  We knocked a hole in the turn 3 wall which prompted Adam to work on stronger walls and progressive banking.  And since the track has continued to work on upgrades over the years, we are excited to see how it turned out.”

Previous Mountain Creek Speedway competitors like Caden Kvapil, Aiden Price and Will Boprey shared their thoughts about the division coming to the track in 2023. “I think it’s really good for micros to come out to Mountain Creek” said, Caden Kvapil, “There aren’t many tracks around us that race them so adding another one to run at is pretty cool to see. I think it will be good to have another place to race at and get more experience with different style tracks and conditions for the drivers to run at, without having to travel super far.” Kvapil has multiple wins at Mountain Creek Speedway in outlaw karts. Will Boprey who finished second in points at Millbridge said, “I think micros going to Mountian Creek is definitely gonna be different. It’s definitely not gonna be as fast as other tracks around the country and it’s gonna be a little more technical than other tracks because of how it’s laid out.” Boprey, who picked up a win last season added, “Tighter corners and front stretch isn’t exactly straight it’s kind of shaped like a D a little bit.” “I’m looking forward to racing at a new local track”, said Aiden Price. “I’m excited to see what I can learn and take away as a driver from Mountain Creek.” Price grabbed an A-main win at Port City Raceway in September last year.

Opening Day for 600 micros at Mountain Creek Speedway will be April, 2nd. Gates will open at 12:30pm with practice shorty to follow. In the meantime, testing and practice sessions are on hold until the speedway staff is finished with renovations.
