(Butler Township, Pa. 4-27-25) The anticipation and excitement of race cars coming out to compete for the first time this season at Evergreen Raceway is only a week away. On Sunday, May 4 at 2:00 pm the 1/3-mile paved oval in St. Johns will be welcoming race fans and teams in for an afternoon program headlined by the Tour Type Modifieds.
The Modified feature will be 50 laps in distance and pay $2000-to-win.
At Evergreen, Berwick’s Brian DeFebo has set the benchmark with the Tour Type Modifieds as the all-time feature winner with 58 stops in Fairway Chevrolet Victory Lane and not far behind is Matt Hirschman from Northampton with 52 Tour Type Mod wins.
Also on the docket are the Harry’s U-Pull-It Street Stocks, Himmer Graphics Four Cylinders, Rotten-and-Forgotten and the touring INEX Legends.
Mike Pollack from Freeland is the defending Street Stock champion. Last season he won a class-high five times enroute to his third consecutive title.
In the Rotten-and-Forgotten Noah Jensen of Wapwallopen has been the top point finisher and feature winner the past two seasons. Meanwhile BJ Wambold of Nazareth claimed the Four Cylinder title, which was his very first stock car championship.
On April 13 Evergreen Raceway’s Winter Thaw was set to be the planned 2025 opener, that show however, was postponed due to poor weather conditions and with that all the attention now turns to next Sunday.
Many teams have been using track time in recent weeks to prepare for Sunday’s big event, offering a glimpse of what’s to come for Opening Day.
Plus, there is an additional open practice the day prior, on Saturday, May 3, from noon to 4:00 pm. For anyone wishing to come out on Saturday the cost is $25 per person for the pits. Saturday grandstand admission is free.
On Sunday, pits will open at 10:30 am and grandstands at noon. Warmups will begin at 12:30 pm and racing starts at 2:00 pm. Pit admission is $40 for all ages. Adult grandstand admission is $18. Kids 12 and under are free,
In other track related news, a crew from Wanick Construction of Zions Grove will be at the raceway this week to cut out and pave the newly planned Little Evergreen Raceway karting oval track.
Evergreen Raceway, a 1/3-mile paved oval in St. Johns, Butler Township, Luzerne County, hosts motorsports events from February to November, making it a top entertainment choice in Northeast Pennsylvania.
