Epping, NH — The sun finally started to shine down on the 2025 season for the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour on Mother’s Day Sunday at Star Speedway. Thirty-six teams representing five New England states and the Canadian province of Quebec converged for the Coastal Clash 150 at the southern New Hampshire oval in Round #1 of the Brookside Equipment Sales Triple Crown!
Longtime southern New Hampshire racer Geoff Rollins took the win in heat one, Maine hot-shoe Joey Doiron took down heat two while Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour title chasers D.J. Shaw and Raphael Lessard claimed heats three and four, respectively. Former Rookie of the Year Kasey Beattie and Massachusetts pilot Chase Curtis claimed the two consolation round victories before Tanner Woodard made his way into the main feature with a B-Feature, Last Chance Race victory to set the thirty-car starting grid.
By virtue of a +6 earned from coming up through the tail of heat four to finish third in ACT’s Plus/Minus handicapping, defending Coastal Clash 150 winner Jimmy Renfrew Jr. claimed the pole position with outside pole going to two-time Star Speedway winner Joey Polewarczyk with a +5.
Renfrew quickly took off with the lead and a rear-view mirror full of Erick Sands, the defending Brookside Equipment Triple Crown champion. A series of quick spin, single car cautions in the opening laps quickly turned sour with Cam Huntress getting the brunt of the third caution with his brand-new Dale Shaw Racecars machine slamming hard into the backstretch tractor tires to end his day early. A fourth caution earned single file restarts for the foreseeable future with Sands continuing to stalk Renfrew by mere inches through lap traffic.
Continuing to stay in the hunt, Jesse Switser and Joey Polewarczyk followed the leaders in navigating heavy lap traffic until everything came unglued on lap 121. Motoring into turn three, Sands and Renfrew made contact with the R&R Race Parts machine going into a smoking spin cycle and the Sands Motorsports entry going to the rear for involvement in the spin.
After charging up through the field from a mid-pack start, suddenly Brandon Barker sat in the cat-bird seat in the lead. The final twenty-nine laps ran through to the end with Barker taking the #0NH Sullivan Construction Eppin’ Express to Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour victory lane with Jesse Switser coming home second and New Hampshire Motor Speedway winner Gabe Brown rounding out the podium.
Defending Star Speedway Late Model track champion Connor McDougal made the local crowd proud with a hardfought fourth place effort and Joey Pole rounded out the top five. Raphael Lessard took the Larue America #48QC to sixth followed by DJ Shaw, Derek Gluchacki, fellow Quebecer Alexendre Tardif and Chase Curtis rounding out the top-ten.
Up next, the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour returns to Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vermont for the rain-delayed Community Bank 150 on Sunday, June 1. The Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, rk Miles Street Stocks and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors are also on the docket for a great afternoon of racing on the iconic Thunder Road highbanks!
