(Stafford Springs, CT)— Stafford Speedway hosted the extra distance Monaco Ford SK Light Double Down along with Stafford’s other four weekly divisions as well as a kids big wheel race on Friday, July 11th. Chris Matthews was the big winner of the night, capturing the 40-lap Monaco Ford SK Light Double Down feature for his second win of the 2025 season. Mikey Flynn won the SK Modified® feature for his first win of 2025, Andrew Durand was a first-time 2025 winner in the Late Model feature, Kevin Cormier was another first time 2025 winner in the Limited Late Model feature, and Aaron Plemons was a winner for the third time this season in the Street Stock feature.
In the 40-lap Monaco Ford SK Light Double Down feature event, Josh Morrison took the lead at the start of the race with Nick Anglace in second. Anglace took the lead from Morrison on lap-4 with Daltin McCarthy third, Chris Matthews fourth, and Sami Anderson fifth. Meghan Fuller spun in turn 3 and Dylan Houghton retired from the race with a flat tire to bring the caution out with 4 laps complete.
Anglace took the lead back under green but the race stayed green for only 1 lap before Brian Sullivan spun in turn 1 while the cars of Peter Bennett, Nickolas Hovey, Casey Vogt, and Matt Brewer all ended up against the backstretch wall and the car of Robert Bloxsom, III came to a stop in turn 3.
The restart saw Ron Midford, Jr. spin in the middle of turns 1+2 to bring the caution flag back out immediately.
Back under green Anglace again powered his way into the lead. Matthews went around Anderson on lap-10 to move into second with Anderson back to third. McCarthy was fourth with Bob Charland up to fifth. Midford and Jason Finkbein both spun on the backstretch to bring the caution back out with 13 laps complete.
Matthews took the lead on the restart with Anglace in second. Anderson and McCarthy were racing side by side for third with Anderson taking the position on lap-17. Charland was still holding down fifth place with Josh Morrison, Vogt, Joey Ferrigno, Brewer, and Norm Sears making up the top-10. The caution flag came back out with 20 laps complete for a spin in turn 4 by David Webb and Jason Chapman.
Matthews again took the lead back under green with Anglace and Anderson behind him. McCarthy had to hold off a hard charge from Charland to maintain fourth place with Charland in fifth. With 10 laps to go it was still Matthews out front with Anglace, Anderson, McCarthy, and Charland behind him. Matthews led the field to the checkered flag to pick up his second win of the 2025 season. Anglace finished second with Anderson, McCarthy, and Charland rounding out the top-5.
In the 40-lap SK Modified® feature event, Andrew Molleur took the early lead at the drop of the green with Todd Owen right behind him in second. Alexander Pearl quickly moved up to third with Anthony Flannery fourth and Troy Talman fifth. Owen made a move to the inside of Molleur to take the lead by a nose on lap-3. Owen cleared Molleur on lap-4 and now Pearl was to the inside of Molleur looking to take third but the caution flag flew with 4 laps complete for a spin in turn 4 by Curt Brainard.
Molleur went back into the lead on the restart with Talman taking second. Owen and Pearl were wheel to wheel for third with Mikey Flynn and Flannery going wheel to wheel for fifth place. Talman took the lead from Molleur on lap-9 with Pearl looking to follow him by. Pearl took second from Molleur on lap-10 and Flynn took third from Molleur on lap-11. Molleur was able to get in line in fourth place with Owen now back to fifth.
The top-3 cars touched on lap-16 with Flynn going to the front, Talman second, and Molleur third. Pearl fell back to fourth with Steven Chapman now up to fifth. Talman took the lead from Flynn on lap-18 while Keith Rocco was looking for a way around Chapman for fifth place. Flynn came back to the inside of Talman on lap-23 and he retook the lead. Molleur was still third behind the two leaders with Pearl fourth and Chapman was still fifth with Jon Puleo having gotten around Rocco for sixth place. The caution flew with 33 laps complete for a spin in turn 3 by David Arute.
The restart saw a multi-car accident break out on the backstretch that involved the cars of Michael Christopher, Jr., Wade Gagner, Arute, Brainard, and Rocco that brought the caution flag back out immediately.
Flynn took the lead on the next restart while behind him things got bottled up a bit as Pearl had a flat right front tire and was off the pace. Molleur emerged in second with Puleo and Talman side by side for third. Puleo took third on lap-36 with Michael Gervais, Jr. up to fifth. Puleo made a move for second and on the final lap he gave Flynn a solid shot to the back bumper but Flynn didn’t bobble in the slightest and he took the checkered flag to pick up his first win of the 2025 season. Puleo finished second with Molleur, Talman, and Gervais rounding out the top-5.
In the 30-lap Late Model feature event, Tom Fearn took the lead at the green flag but his time at the front was short as Alexandra Fearn took the lead on lap-3. Tom Fearn drifted up the track on lap-4, allowing Andrew Durand to come through to second and Bobby Stirk, III to third and drop Fearn back to fourth. Darrell Keane took fourth on lap-5 with Christopher Buffone taking fifth as Tom Fearn slid back to ninth place. Scott Foster, Jr. spun coming out of turn 4 to bring the caution flag out with 11 laps complete.
Durand took the lead from Alex Fearn on the restart with Keane and Stirk going door to door for third with Paul Varricchio, Jr. up to fifth. Keane took third on lap-14 and that allowed Varricchio to take fourth and Adam Gray fifth as Stirk began to slide backwards in the outside lane. Stirk fell all the way back to tenth place as Buffone took sixth, Kevin Gambacorta seventh, Chris Meyer eighth, and Adon Burrell ninth.
With 10 laps to go, Durand was still out front with Alex Fearn in second. Keane was still third with Varricchio and Gray making up the top-5. Gambacorta was now sixth followed by Buffone, Stirk, Meyer, and Foster. Durand led the field to the checkered flag to pick up his first win of the 2025 season. Alex Fearn came home second with Varricchio, Keane, and Gray rounding out the top-5.
In the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature event, Kevin Cormier took the lead at the green flag with Connor Jencik taking second. Rich Hammann ran side by side with Adrien Paradis, III for a lap before taking third on lap-2. Jeremy Lavoie took fourth on lap-3 to drop Paradis back to fifth. Hammann took second from Jencik on lap-7 and Lavoie followed him by Jencik on lap-9 to move into third and drop Jencik back to fourth, just in front of Jason Lafayette.
Lafayette made a move to the inside of Jencik on lap-10 to move into fourth place and that move opened the door for Travis Hydar to also get by Jencik on lap-11 to take fifth and drop Jencik back to sixth place.
Hammann was able to close the gap down to Cormier but he wasn’t able to get close enough to make a bid for the lead as Cormier took down his first win of the 2025 season. Lavoie finished third with Lafayette and Hydar rounding out the top-5.
In the 20-lap Street Stock feature event, Jeff Asselin streaked into the lead at the drop of the green but as the cars hit the backstretch, several cars spun including Brandon Warren, Bert Ouellette, Bill Cote, and Sean Petlock, which brought the caution flag out before a lap could be completed.
Asselin took the lead on the restart with Jason Raymond moving up to second, Marvin Minkler settled into third with Kolton Gambacorta up to fourth and Travis Downey fifth. Minkler slid back several spots to ninth place with Gambacorta taking third, Downey fourth, and Aaron Plemons fifth as Asselin and Raymond continued to occupy the top-2 spots. The caution came back out with 4 laps complete for a spin at the end of the backstretch by Garrett Pease.
Asselin again took the lead back under green with Gambacorta moving up to second. Plemons moved up to third with PJ Evans taking fourth and Downey fifth. The caution flew again with 5 laps complete for a spin in turn 2 by Alan Stewart, Jr.
The restart saw Plemons go 3-wide with Asselin in the middle and Gambacorta on the outside to take over the lead. Evans took second with Tyler Trott moving up to third. Warren was now back up to fourth with Gambacorta in fifth place. Gambacorta would lose fifth to Ouellette and sixth to Downey as he slid back to seventh place. The caution came back out with 13 laps complete for a spin in turn 4 by Alex Spinnato.
Plemons took the lead on the next restart with Evans right behind him in second. Trott was third in line with Ouellette fourth and Raymond fifth. Plemons led the field to the checkered flag to pick up his third win of the 2025 season. Evans finished second with Trott, Ouellette, and Raymond rounding out the top-5.
The Kids Big Wheel winners were Woody Pitkat’s sons Bryce and Weston from Bellingham, MA.
