“The Greatest Tradition in Modified Racing” Heads to New England for the First Time

Thompson, Conn. – (October 3, 2025) – History will be made on Saturday, October 11, when the 75th Annual Race of Champions is contested at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. For the first time in its storied history, “The Greatest Tradition in Modified Racing” will be held in New England, joining the prestigious Sunoco World Series Weekend.

The Race of Champions is the second-longest consecutively run auto race in North America, trailing only the Indianapolis 500. Since its debut at Langhorne (Pa.), the event has traveled to Trenton (N.J.)Pocono Raceway (Pa.) (both the 2.5-mile triangle and ¾-mile oval), Flemington (N.J.)Oswego (N.Y.)Chemung (N.Y.), and most recently

Lake Erie Speedway (Pa.), which hosted the last nine editions. Now, the historic Thompson 5/8-mile oval will host the milestone 75th running, adding its name to the legacy of tracks where Modified racing’s best have competed.

Among the contenders is Austin Beers (Northampton, Pa.), who is chasing the same accomplishment as his father, Eric Beers, winner of the 54th edition of the Race of Champions at Oswego Speedway.

“I was young, but I know it was a big deal,” Beers said. “I would love to add my name to the Al Gerber Trophy. It’s been a long-term goal of ours, and we’re bringing a good piece to Thompson. It’s going to be an exciting race.”

Beers, a former Series champion, enters the event second in the Race of Champions Modified Series championship standings, trailing leader Matt Hirschman (Northampton, Pa.).

The 75th Annual Race of Champions 150 will be one of the showcase events of the Sunoco World Series Weekend, running October 10–12, 2025, at Thompson Speedway.
