Hermon, ME-Last week marked one week since our first meeting together as owner and competitors of our Speedway.
Most of you have been to many meetings so when you reached out to express how encouraged
you were, it was to say the least, great to hear and an endorsement of our future.
Last night at roughly 8 PM we completed a hard copy of our late model, super street, crown Vic
classes.
Today we are releasing those, as well as sharing with you that in response to your feedback, we
are mandating that the street stock class will be approved to compete with a 9 inch Ford rear
housing for the foreseeable future… in other words, if you’re building a new car, you should
seriously consider installing a 9 inch Ford, which allows you to compete in high gear as opposed
to competing in second or third gear… with an existing housing.
After careful consideration and lengthy discussion with Stan Meserve, our competition director…
The street stock class is a healthier class competing in high gear, with a much deeper variety of
rear gear availability or options.
We have also decided that we will mandate a 6 inch ride height rule for all street stock cars…
This is a decision predicated on starting our season with a firm set of rules that will be in
everyone’s best interest long-term.
I emphasize long-term, it may not be perfect for everyone, but it certainly makes us stronger and
less convoluted going forward.
The bottom line to these two updates is that we need to get to a common set of rules across the
board as quickly as possible… This division is going to be a phenomenal division, but it will only
become phenomenal with all your help and with all competitors eventually competing with the
same equipment.
We do not want new cars being built to capitalize on the 5 inch rule that existed, the time is now
for everyone to lean into the same set of rules across the board.
As the owner of Speedway, I have the hidden value of having competed at many levels from
right here in Hermon Maine… to the high banks of Daytona… everywhere in between. As a
driver, I always wanted what was best for me, as an owner of a racetrack… I want and I
promise to deliver what’s best for all of us!
The street stock rules along with all other divisions that hadn’t been addressed, in this bulletin
will be completed in short order.
I will close by echoing what I shared with you at the banquet, and at our rules meeting. We are
creating a Speedway and facility that when completed will make us all proud. Proud to compete
at, proud to attend, proud to be associated with, and extremely proud to have contributed to!
I’m not doing it alone – nor could I. It’s why I’ll always refer to it as “Our Speedway”
Most of you have battled through the tough days of Speedway’s past… You protected and
preserved it the same way Del Merritt protected it, and a short time ago, handed it off to Me.
From my perspective… I’m truly putting everything into making this vision a reality. I’m doing it
for us. A big part of why I am doing it is because of how much support I received from all of you
in the last 40 plus years… Now here we are, on the doorsteps of something great. Every one
of you deserve to be a part of it, and it’s my sincere hope that every one of you will be.
Thank You,
~ R Craven
