(Chemung, NY) Regional racers and fans had held their breath for months, hoping that someone would step up and either buy or lease Chemung Speedrome. The track had run weekly racing programs since the spring of 2001. George Nichols and Dan Mathews recently reached an agreement with track owner, John White, to lease the facility for 2026. The late start has the team pushing hard to put the countless pieces in place for the May 1st opening. On the two prior Saturdays, April 18th and 25th, they will hold open afternoon practice sessions, with exact times to be determined.
While more details are released frequently, the track will run on Friday nights at 7 PM. The schedule that was released this week includes races every Friday night from May 1st through October 2nd, with only Friday, September 4th idle. The schedule is, however, subject to change.
Fans will notice the return of the divisions they had become accustomed to watching at the 3/8-mile asphalt oval: Sportsman Modifieds, Super Stocks, Hobby Stocks, and 4 Cylinders. A meeting will be held soon to go over particulars including track rentals, pit stalls, annual paperwork requirements, rules, and payouts, among other items.
Pit admission will be $45 per person, while grandstand pricing will be $15 for adults ages 16-61, $13 for seniors ages 62+, $7 for kids ages 10-15, and free for children ages 10 and under. Specific times will also be provided when finalized.
Information will be posted on the track’s Facebook page: The New Chemung Speedrome. The phone number listed is 607-259-2105.
