(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Motor Speedway has announced that John Maybury, longtime supporter of Stafford Speedway and head of Maybury Material Handling, has been named Grand Marshal for the 54th Annual NAPA Spring Sizzler®, set for April 25–26.  Maybury will send the field of open modified cars on their way for 100-laps of ground pounding excitement with the most famous words in motorsports, ‘Drivers start your engines.’

“I’m truly honored to be asked to be the Sizzler® Grand Marshal,” said Maybury.  “It’s a privilege and I’m excited to be able to start the race.  I remember back in the 80’s I started a couple of races with Chris Hopkins up on the flagstand.  I love Stafford, I’ve been coming to the track as a race fan since the 1970’s, and it’s always been my favorite track.  We used to do some stuff with Riverside and we do some vintage stuff at other tracks but Stafford has always been my favorite.”

Maybury Material Handling first came to Stafford in the 1980’s as a primary sponsor on the Late Model car of Wade Gagner.  Maybury has since expanded their presence at Stafford to include race sponsorships and advertising at the track, and for the last decade they’ve been a presenting sponsor of first place contingency bonuses to drivers in both the SK Modified® and SK Light divisions.

“We’ve got started being involved at Stafford with Wade Gagner in the 80’s,” said Maybury.  “We ran a 1976 Monte Carlo as our first entry together and then we expanded to a couple of cars and I drove our backup car a couple of times just for fun.  We mostly sponsored Wade in the 80’s and then we took a small break once I had kids and then we came back as a sponsor of Maybury Nights at the track and doing the SK Modified® and SK Light first place contingencies.  We had several Maybury event nights in the banquet hall back in the 80’s and 90’s and we’ve helped a lot of drivers out with parts over the years.  We love racing and we love Stafford so we try to do anything we can to help the racers.  We also did a lot with the track for Race-A-Rama.  We always had our cars in the Stafford booth and I remember one year we actually did a cut away car with a car cut in half so fans could see what everything looked like on the inside.”

Maybury Material Handling is currently seeing a new generation step forwards to lead the company into its future, just as Stafford Speedway is seeing a third generation of the Arute family stepping up to help lead the track into the future.

“The Arute family has always done a great job with the track and now Paul and David are getting into running things and the track continues to be as great as it always has been,” said Maybury.  “There’s a nice parallel between Stafford and Maybury with my son Will now being the president of Maybury and there’s a new generation taking over Maybury.  We continue to do better and better at Stafford and everything at Stafford is spectacular.”
