Brian Vance Joins Team for Prestigious Event

Sophia, NC (April 17, 2026) — The North-South Shootout returns to Caraway Speedway on Friday and Saturday, November 6–7, 2026, for its 24th annual running. Along with the dates, track officials have named Brian Vance as the event’s new Race Director.

A Tennessee native, Vance brings decades of experience and leadership to the role, most notably serving as the longtime Race Director for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Throughout his tenure, he earned a reputation as a steady, fair, and highly respected official—trusted by teams, drivers, and promoters alike.

“Brian knows racing, plain and simple,” said Darren Hackett, owner of Caraway Speedway and event promoter. “He’s been around this sport a long time, and people respect him for a reason. He knows how to run a race the right way and treat racers the right way. He’s just what we need to make the much-needed improvements to our event.”

Vance’s deep-rooted connection to the racing community continues to fuel his enthusiasm for the sport. Known for his calm, consistent leadership style and racer-first mentality, he has long been regarded as one of the most respected figures in short track racing.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of the North-South Shootout and working with the team at Caraway Speedway,” said Vance. “This event has a strong reputation, and I’m excited to help continue its tradition while ensuring a competitive, fair, and well-run program for everyone involved.”

Vance stepped away from his involvement in motorsports several years ago to focus on the family business, 007 Signs & Designs in Kingsport, Tennessee, a full-service sign and graphics company specializing in custom signage, vehicle graphics, and promotional design solutions for businesses and organizations.

“I’ve always loved the Modifieds—the competition, the people, and the camaraderie,” Vance added. “It means a lot to be back in that environment, and I truly appreciate the opportunity to be involved again.”

The North-South Shootout has long been a tradition in short track racing, bringing together top talent from both Northern and Southern Modified competition. The vision of the late Charles Kepley and dedicated to the memory of inaugural winner John Blewett, III, it remains one of the most enduring traditions in Modified racing.

With Vance now at the helm of race operations, the event is poised to build on its legacy and deliver an even stronger experience for competitors and fans alike.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have Brian join us,” added Hackett.

Race teams and fans can expect additional event details, including divisions, schedules, and registration information, to be announced in the coming months.
