Wall Township, NJ – Kevin Davison of Howell, NJ regained the point lead in the Accurate Tree Service NASCAR Sportsman division at Wall Stadium on Saturday night with his third feature event win of the season.
Davison leads by just three markers now over Zach Lenardo of Edison, NJ and 13 over Rahway, NJ’s Billy Both heading into the double points finale this coming Saturday.
After a handful of early race cautions, Wall, NJ’s Tyler Ferris, fresh off of his first career NASCAR Modified win a few weeks back, charged into the lead and held the top spot through lap eight. Ferris’ great run ended there when his No. 7 failed to start during a caution flag and had to be pushed to the pit area.
James Blewett of Howell, NJ then took over the top spot with Galloway, NJ’s Paulie Hartwig III and Davison riding in tight formation. The trio then raced hard until lap 17 when Blewett and Hartwig touched in turn four forcing the duo to spin and several other cars to pile in.
Davison would then inherit the lead and go on to take the win over Both, Leonardo, Ryan Kuhlthau and Hartwig, who rebounded from the incident to take fifth.
“They were racing hard in front of me and when that tangle happened I was able to get by,” Davison said. “I was lucky to get by. I have to thank my crew and my sponsors for this year no matter how the point race ends.”
The companion 25 lapper for the O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stocks suffered just one yellow flag and Jared Okerson of Freehold, NJ took full advantage of the frantic action to grab his first win of the season. Howell, NJ’s Nick Bilello fought with Waretown, NJ’s Chris Lane in the late going to grab second, while Beachwood, NJ’s Alex Rogers and John Carpenter were fourth and fifth.
John Carpenter leads Elliott Wohl by 28 points heading into this coming Saturday’s double point feature event for the Factory Stocks, Chris Lane is third 38 points out of the lead.
The Surfside Collision 4-Cylinders competed in three separate 15-lap features on the night, Freehold, NJ’s TJ Graves was awarded his first win of the season after Stephen Forgus IV passed the checkered flag first, but could not pass post race tech inspection. Doug Ashford, Billy Pross, Ian Ashford and Kevin Carr were second through fifth.
The second 15 lapper was a battle between two sets of brothers where Ian Ashford beat his brother Doug Ashford to the finish line over Cory Carr and Kevin Carr were third and fourth while Graves came home fifth.
Pross won the third and final 4 Cylinder Stock 15 lap race while Doug Ashford had the best overall three race average by finishing second. Ian Ashford, Stephen Forgus IV and Kevin Carr completed the top five.
Doug Ashford will hold on to the point lead heading into Saturday’s double point main event by 27 over Billy Pross, Cory Carr is 44 back of the lead while TJ Graves is 47 back in fourth.
Bohemia, NY’s Chevy Rommeney took his first ever win in the Natural Design Co. Legend Cars after a spirited battle with champion Mike Alcaro of Newton, NJ in the closing laps. Brick, NJ’s Justin Emmons Jr was able to slip past the third place finishing Alcaro in the closing laps. Little Silver, NJ’s Lars Wilson and Jack Gerzabek of Springfield, PA were fourth and fifth.
Alcaro increased his point lead to 41 over Jack Gerzabek and 44 over Thomas Schwarz with double points on the line this Saturday.
Howell, NJ’s Bob Anderton won the non-stop Underdog 20, a main event for Factory Stock drivers who had not yet won a feature race this year. Ryan Bilello, Kaitlyn Hankins, James Hall IV and Doug Bates wrapped up the top five.
Wall Stadium will return to action this Saturday night, October 10, with Championship Night presented by NAPA and VanWickle Auto Supply with all feature events featuring double points. The NASCAR Modifieds will headline the action with a championship deciding 100 lap feature where Blake Barney leads Steven Reed by just four points with Jimmy Blewett 45 back and James Blewett 67 off of the lead.
