GEORGETOWN SPEEDWAY SETS HIGHLIGHT-FILLED 2022 SCHEDULE

GEORGETOWN, DE – Another go-around.

BD Motorsports Media LLC has set the schedule for the 2022 season at the Georgetown Speedway.

The schedule is highlighted by three separate appearances from the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco and the inaugural Gary Simpson Memorial ‘12K for the 12K’ race.

In total, 11 races are on the docket for the ’22 season, with four of them paying a minimum of $6,000 to win. Visits from the Monster Truck Racing League and the Zerbini Family Circus are also on the 2022 schedule.

Two practices precede the racing season on Saturday, March 5 and Thursday, March 10, the latter of which serves as the Opening Night to the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial weekend.

The ‘Melvin L. Joseph Memorial’ serves as the season-opening race with the STSS visiting in ‘Elite’ style on March 10-12.

The weekend of racing will conclude with a 49-lap, $25,000-to-win feature event in Round No. 2 of the STSS Halmar International ‘Elite’ Series. The $25,000 payday to the winner will serve as the most lucrative dirt-track race in Delaware history.

The STSS returns on Tuesday, Aug. 30 as Melon 1 presents ‘Blast at the Beach,’ the popular summer classic at the Sussex County half-mile. The Modifieds will race for 35-laps and a $6,000 payday.

The final STSS stop rounds out the season for Georgetown on Oct. 28 & 29 with the ‘Mid-Atlantic Championships.’ The season concludes as the Modifieds go for 40-laps and up to a $7,000-to-win.

The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman join all three STSS programs at Georgetown Speedway again in ’22.

New on the schedule is the Gary Simpson Memorial ‘12K for the 12K’ race. In honor of the late Delaware racing car owner Gary Simpson, the July 22 race will see the Modifieds race for 32-laps and $12,000-to-win, the second-highest-paying race of the season at Georgetown in the new year.

Also on the program to honor Simpson are the Crate 602 Sportsman going 22-laps $1,212-to-win. The Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks & Delmarva Chargers all join the night of racing as well.

The Monster Truck Racing League presents ‘Monster Truck Madness’ on April 8 & 9. Two complete shows of Monster Trucks and Motocross at the Sussex County half-mile.

On May 20 & 21, the Zerbini Family Circus with three showtimes over the course of the two days at the facility.

Familiar favorites also continue as the ‘Mark “Coot” Williams Memorial’ takes place for the Super Late Models alongside the ‘Battle of the Bay’ for the RUSH Late Model Series on April 14.

May 13 provides another running of the ‘Deron Rust Memorial,’ as the Modifieds go for 33-laps and $3,960 to win.

The Sprint Cars visit Georgetown on three separate occasions in ’22 with three separate series taking center stage.

The Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series join the Modifieds and RUSH Late Models for the June 3 program for their only appearance of the season.

The Sprint Cars visit Georgetown twice in the month of September. First, on September 9, the United Racing Club 360 Sprint Cars join the Modifieds and RUSH Late Models.

Three weeks later, on September 30, the non-winged warriors of the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars co-headline the event with the Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman.

Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
