MILFORD, Conn. – Fresh off his third NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour win of the season, all with Tommy Baldwin Racing, Doug Coby will look to carry momentum to Oswego Speedway this Saturday. Set to drive the No. 7NY again for Baldwin, Coby will look to help the team extend their owners championship points lead with just four races to go in the season.
Coby is a former winner at Oswego while driving for Mike Smeriglio Racing, as the six-time series champion captured the checkered flag in 2016 in the inaugural stop at the New York oval. Racing as part of the Budweiser Classic weekend, the Whelen Modified Tour race will take place on Saturday night, September 3.
Coby has all eyes towards Victory Lane. Even though he’s only raced part-time this year, with Baldwin and once with his own equipment, he sits inside the top-10 in the drivers championship standings and has the most wins on the circuit.
“I’m confident,” Coby said. “I like Oswego. Having won there before and run up front, I feel like I have a good understanding of how to position myself to be near the front of the field when it counts. I’m excited with what Tommy Baldwin has going on right now. He’s had a ton of success this year, some of it at tracks he hadn’t won at before. I think we will have a strong car and I’d expect to be in contention to win.”
Oswego’s race day schedule on Saturday includes one Whelen Modified Tour practice session from 2-3 p.m., followed by Mayhew Tools pole qualifying at 4:30 p.m. The green flag for the Toyota Budweiser Modified Classic 150 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., live on FloRacing.TV for those who can’t make it to the track.
