Box Stock Sunday presented by Ed Watkins Marine was the make up race from last week’s rain cancellation for all the junior classes at the speedway by the creek. This week, the speedway saw racing under clear and sunny skies as eighteen Box Stocks signed in the gate.
The Junior Wing division saw a dominating performance all day by Tanner Cheek as the fastest qualifier also led the main event wire to wire. He was followed across the line by Nova Palermo. Newcomer to the Beginner Box Stock division, Slate Harrell started on the pole and led every lap of their main event. The race then became for second place at Alex Slade and Will Spencer battled for second. Slade would finish second with Brexton, Spencer and Thomas Pursley rounding out the top five.
Calloway Harpe won the Cadet Main event after surviving two restarts. Wyatt Linker and Maverick Bradshaw put on a thrilling battle for second but in the end Liker had to settle for second. Fast qualifier Tatum Burnette was third with Maverick Bradshaw and Gavin Thompson completing the top five.
with $500 on the line to win. Liam Kane survived a rash of early race cautions to win the Ed Watkins Marine Box Stock feature. Karter Beattie would battle with Zoey Smith and John Marshall Pursley for the runner up spot. Pursley spun, ruining his chances for a top five. Smith settled back into third, Brexton Busch was fourth with Chase DeMarco rounding out the top five.
The next race for outlaw karts and micro sprints at Mountain Creek Speedway will be May 21st. All divisions will be back in action in their regularly scheduled program. When the track isn’t racing, it’s busy Monday through Friday with testing and practice sessions for everything from flat karts to national midgets. The track will also be available for testing and practice days throughout the year. Those wishing to reserve rental or testing days can contact Jason Queen at (828)413-6890 for details and availability.
