(Butler Township, Pa. 10-23-23) It may have taken longer than expected but Evergreen Raceway finally got the first of three scheduled days of the 22nd annual King of the Green in on Sunday afternoon, October 22, albeit after three aborted tries due to weather related issues.

The paved 1/3-mile oval in St. Johns will now look ahead to the final two events of the King of the green which will bring down the curtain on the 2023 season.

Saturday, November 4, will see the Tour Type Modifieds headline a big day of action with the Tom Wanick Jr., Memorial, a 111-lap feature paying $3500-to-win and no less than $800 to take the green.

A second commemorative race, the George Wambold Memorial 81 for Street Stocks, is also part of the line-up as well as a 50-lap Late Model feature, a 40-lapper for Legends, 25-circuits taking place for the Bandolero’s and the East Coast TQ Midgets contesting in a 25-lap run plus the popular JuiceBox Division for the younger set.

Race time begins at 1:00 pm with Modified time trials followed by heats for all other aforementioned classes. Adult grandstand admission is $20, pits are $50.

The following Sunday afternoon, November 5, starting at 2:00 pm it will be day three of the King of the Green.

Originally listed to run on Friday of the same weekend, race teams reached out to track owner/promoter Jason Makarewicz that Sunday rather than Friday would be a much better day for all slated to compete based on travel and the time of day by which the races would be held.

After hearing the concerns Makarewicz felt it would indeed be in the best interest and in favor of the change to Sunday afternoon over Friday evening.

“To say it’s been crazy trying to get our King of the Green in is a huge understatement. This is the one event everyone looks forward to and is always earmarked on their calendar and Mother Nature has been giving us fits trying to get even one day in,” Makarewicz said.

“Looking ahead to the final two days of the KoG and closely revaluating things we feel moving the Friday program to Sunday is the right thing to do for our teams, many who have to travel, and of course our fans,” he went on the say.

“It’s important that we give them a great race weekend and this Saturday/Sunday format works out best.”

The Sunday schedule will consist of twin-30 lap features for the Evergreen Mods, a 40-lap main for the Factory Stocks, a non-2023 winners feature for the 4-Cylinder Stocks along with a Rotten and Forgotten 25 lapper. Adult grandstand admission is $16 while pits are $40.

Although Friday is no longer a race day, Makarewicz noted that the track will be open throughout the day for open practice.
