(Butler Township, PA 5-4-24): The much awaited start of the 2024 season at Evergreen Raceway has been cancelled due to a weather forecast of rain throughout the day.

“It seemed no matter what weather report you turn to, there all the same with rain predicted starting first thing in the morning and then on and off all day. There’s no sense in fighting Mother Nature at this point so we feel it’s best to cancel now and give everyone the opportunity to make alternate plans,” said Evergreen owner/promoter Jason Makarewicz.

“We had been gearing up for a great afternoon of racing and there was so much interest from teams who were planning to attend Sunday’s opener. We’ll move forward and try it again with our first Friday night show next week.”

With the scheduled Sunday opener now scratched, the 1/3-mile paved oval will turn to Friday evening, May 10, for the first weekly races of the season.

While Sunday afternoon shows remain the standard for Evergreen, this year the speedway is venturing at the occasion to run on select Friday and Saturday nights with May 10 being one such evening.

“There have been fans and race teams who have reached out to me over the offseason about maybe racing on a Friday or Saturday night and when we put the schedule together it seemed like the dates we chose will be worth giving it a try,” said Makarewicz.

“This upcoming Friday will be a good test of that and since our opener has been washed out I’m confident we’ll rebound nicely with a decent turnout.”

On the Friday docket will be the DW Machine & Fabricating Co., Late Models, Harry’s U-Pull-It Auto Parts Street Stocks, Himmer Graphics Four Cylinders and the McNulty Funeral Home Novices plus the JuiceBox Division. Race time is 7:00 pm.

The next day, Saturday, May 1, fans will get the chance to partake in the Evergreen Raceway 2-Seater Ride-Along. This year the track is launching this new and exciting program to strap into a Late Model stock car and experience what if feels like to be in full race conditions.

On Saturday, May 25, the 602 Crate Modifieds will be in action along with the Harry’s U-Pull-It Auto Parts Street Stocks, Himmer Graphics Four Cylinders and the McNulty Funeral Home Novices plus the introduction of the Bangers division, a stock, front wheel drive 4-Cylinder car.
