Shawn Nye, Mark Hoch, Chris Deyoe Jr Are 2026 Lancaster Motorplex Track Champions

LANCASTER, N.Y. (September 3, 2026) – The 38th Annual US Open at Lancaster Motorplex got underway on Friday night, with track championships on the line for the Sportsman and Street Stocks. Nathan Bryant from East Aurora, NY won the John Carlson Memorial for the Street Stocks. Shawn Nye from Lancaster, NY won the Sportsman main event, and also secured his third divisional points championship. Mark Hoch from West Seneca, NY edged out Bryant to earn his fifth consecutive Street Stock championship. Chris Deyoe Jr from East Otto, NY secured his third 4 Cylinder track championship in the last four years.
Alex Bialkowski and Tucker Welshans brought the field of Street Stocks to the green flag for the John Carlson Memorial, with Welshans in the lead ahead of Dustin Novoa, Marty Kling, Bialkowski, and Nik Welshans racing in the top five. Donnie Aquino would enter the top five, with points leader Mark Hoch racing in sixth place. Novoa would take the lead away from Welshans on lap eight, with Marty Kling moving into second just one lap later. Chris Barber spun to bring out the caution on lap 17. Several cars would go into the pits for adjustments, including Hoch who was running fourth at the time. Nathan Bryant would enter the top five on lap 18 after passing early race leader Welshans. After a lap 22 caution bunched the field up, Novoa would lead Nathan Bryant. The duo would battle over the final eight laps, with Bryant edging out Novoa to score the win, by .0016. Novoa would be found to be illegal in post-race inspection. Marty Kling and Tucker Welshans would round out the podium.
Cory Grenzy and Tommy Catalano were on the front row for the 35-lap Sportsman Season Championship event, with Catalano in the lead ahead of Andrew Nye, Tyler Catalano, Mason Hanel, and Shawn Nye. Tyler Catalano would take over second on lap three and would go after his brother Tommy for the race lead. Nye would go three wide with both Tommy and Tyler Catalano to take the lead on lap 19. Tommy would regain the lead on lap 21, ahead of Nye, Skora, Tyler, Mason, and Andy Jankowiak. The caution would come out on lap 21 as Adam Brown spun in turn two. The restart would see Tommy back in the lead ahead of Shawn with Skora, Tyler, and Andy Jankowiak. Nye would take back the lead on lap 25. From there, Nye would hold off Tommy Catalano and George Skora III to pick up the win, and also earning his career divisional points championship.
Chris Deyoe Jr earned his third 4 Cylinder track championship in the last four years. With the 4 Cylinders racing on Saturday at the Open in a non-points event, Deyoe mathematically secured the championship behind his three wins and six top five finishes in six races.
Saturday at the 38th US Open will be headlined by the Sportsman in a 50-lap event. The Super Stocks, Mighty TQ Midgets and the 4 Cylinders will all be in action. Pit gates open at 12pm, grandstands open at 2pm, with racing beginning at 5pm. Grandstand admission is $25 for adults, $20 for seniors/veterans, $15 for students 11-16.
Sunday at the Open will be headlined by the Tour-Type Modifieds in their 75-lap event. The Street Stocks will race in the BRK Memorial, plus the Late Models and the Rusty Diamond Cores Pro 4’s will all be in competition. Racing on Sunday will begin at 1:30pm, with grandstands opening at 11am, and pits opening at 9:30am. Grandstand admission is $30 for adults, $25 for seniors/veterans, $15 for students 11-16, and kids 10 and under will be admitted FREE with a paid Adult admission.
