The NASCAR WMT heads to Martinville Speedway this Thursday October 27 for their 2022 season finale.

Since February, 15 races have been run from New Smyrna Speedway in Florida to New Hampshire Motor Speedway. 66 different race drivers have turned a lap on the WMT. From Matt Hirschman’s season opening win to Eric Goodale’s dominating victory at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park 10 different drivers have visited victory lane.

This week Thirty-Six drivers from all up and down the east coast will do battle at one of the highest paying races of the year. The. Virginia is for Racing Lovers 200 will also award the winner the coveted Martinsville Speedway Ridgeway Grandfather clock.

Notes: The largest field of NASCAR Modifieds this year is headed to Martinsville Va. The Virginia is for Race Lovers 200 and is the third trip to Va. this season. Any one of the top four in points can take the championship; with the large field any of the championship contenders will have avoid mistakes to stay in the hunt. Four current or former NASCAR Cup drivers are entered, Bobby Labonte, Corie Lajoie, Ryan Preece and Ryan Newman. Weather will not be a factor as it has been at several races this year, Forecast- Sunny and 67. Only two drivers have had more than one win in 2022, Doug Coby with three and title contender Justin Bonsignore with four both must be favorites to increase that total.

The fight for the NASCAR WMT championship has come down to these four drivers:

  1. Jon Mckennedy #79 Middlesex Interiors. With only one win this season, consistency has paid off for Jon. He has the highest average finish and has the most top 10’s (13) in the series. (Point leader)
  2. Ron Silk #16 Blue Mountain Machine and Future Homes. With no wins this system, finishing in the top 5, has kept him near the top of the standings all year. Ron only suffered only one DNF all season. (-6)
  3. Justin Bonsignore #51 Phoenix Communication Inc. Justin’s season started with the lowest of lows, last at New Smyrna and the highest of highs, win at Richmond. A 25th place finish at his home track Riverhead Raceway put him in a huge hole. Four wins and eleven top 10’s saved his season. (-11)
  4. Eric Goodale #58 GAF Roofing. Eric’s fast start with 4 top 10’s put Eric at the top of the standings early but a 15th and 2 12th place finished dropped him back in the standings. Eric finished more laps than any other driver and a win at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in dominating fashion put him back in the thick of the championship hunt (-16)
