(Butler Township, PA) Within 2 weeks time Evergreen Raceway will be putting on the biggest event of any kind ever staged at the 1/3-mile paved oval when the Tom Wanick Jr., Memorial takes place on Saturday, October 15 with a 200 lap/$8000-to-win Modified feature.

The event is being held in honor of Tom Wanick Jr., a respected Modified car owner who passed away in January of this year. It is also the second such event with an early race held in May at Mahoning Valley Speedway.

Wanick Jr., was not just a car owner but a huge supporter of both eastern Pennsylvania racetracks and his son, Tom III, has gone above and beyond to put these two events at the forefront for asphalt Modifieds.

Matt Hirschman won the Mahoning race, a 150-lap/$7000-to-win feature against a star-studded field. Along with a number of other contingencies his day’s work netted much more than the first-place prize money.

Now the Tom Wanick Jr., Memorial moves to Evergreen and will be part of the track’s annual King of the Green weekend that runs Friday through Sunday of that weekend.

Like Mahoning there will be many added incentives including $1200 to start. There is also a $250 Fast Time award, $500 halfway leader bonus, $500 Hard Charger award and a $2000 Gamblers Bonus which will be offered to the top four from time trials. If any of the top four from time trials elects to start from the rear of the field and then finishes amongst the first four spots, they will then share on the $2000.

The driver who has the best average finish from Evergreen and Mahoning will receive a guaranteed starting spot for the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series Haunted 100 at Seekonk Speedway in Seekonk, MA on October 22.

There are more enticements being added as the race draws near.

All Tour Type Modifieds are welcome. 22 cars plus two provisionals will start. A redraw of the top 12 will be done to invert the starting field.

There will be a Lucky Dog to the first driver one lap down during a caution provided that driver is not the caution car.

Part of the race structure will see the first 75 green and caution laps counted and no pit stops unless a flat has incurred. From laps 75 – 150 drivers can make a pit stops. There will also be a fuel stop on lap 100 on the track and limited to 10 minutes and two crew members. From laps 150 – 200 there will be no tire changes allowed unless of a flat.

Drivers must start the feature on the same set of tires they time trial on. There will be an eight tire rule in place.

Consi drivers may run any set of tires they wish, however, they must use the same set in which they time trialed on.

Pit gates open at 9:00 am, warm-ups begin at 11:00 am and racing starts at 1:00 pm. Factory Stocks and Four Cylinder Stocks will also be on the card. There will be an open practice for Modified teams from noon – 5:00 pm on Friday.

Pre-registration is $100 if done prior to September 30. Afterwards it will be $150. Registration information can be found on the track’s website at www.evergreenracewaypark,com

The King of the Green weekend begins Friday with 602 Crate Modifieds running 50 laps, Novice class going 20 laps and the Rotten Forgotten Series in 25 lap main. Friday action begins at 7:30 pm.

On Sunday the Evergreen Mods will run Twin 30 Lap Features (details to follow), Late Models in a 50 lapper and the Street Stocks also going 50 laps. Race time is 2:00 pm.
