57 CARS ATTEND DELAWARE PRACTICE, JAKE MARINE MEMORIAL FRIDAY

DELMAR, DE – The dawn of a new season.

Following a well-attended Open Practice session on Tuesday, Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Del., fires to life this Friday, March 31 with the Jake Marine Memorial, headlined by the Millman’s NAPA Auto Parts Modifieds in an event paying $8,500 to the winner.

The NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series point battle kicks off for both the Millman’s NAPA Auto Parts Modifieds and Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman.

Delaware International Speedway’s pit area was bustling with 57 race cars in competition on a perfectly manicured half-mile oval prepared by Charles Cathell Tuesday night. The Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman division led with 22 entries.

The Millman’s NAPA Auto Parts Modifieds had 10 cars represented including the Blue Hen Racing car driven by H.J. Bunting, which will sport a throwback No. 85 body in memory of Jake Marine.

Other divisions in competition included Super Late Models, RUSH Late Models, Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers.

Racing kicks off Friday with the NAPA Millman’s Auto Parts Modifieds racing 30 laps for $8,500 to win, Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman going 25 laps for $1,085 to win plus 12-lap features Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers.

Short Track Super Series South Region rules will be in place for the Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman at this event.

American Racer tires permitted are as follows: 48 or harder right-rear; 44 or harder left-rear; 38 or harder right-front; open left-front.

Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman will draw for heat-race starting positions.

The main grandstand concession area will be operated by Milford’s Etta’s Catering. 

The Stockley Tavern/JD Shuckers trailer will be serving the pits.

Gates open at 4:30 p.m., with a drivers’ meeting at 5:45 p.m., hot laps at 6:15 p.m. and racing at 7:15 p.m.

Adult admission is $25, with a $20 Senior (ages 65 and up) and Student (ages 13-17) price, $10 for Kids (ages 9-12) and Children 8 and under FREE.

Pit Admission is $40, $35 for NASCAR Members, $10 for Kids (ages 6-12) and $2 for Children ages 5 and under.

Temporary NASCAR licenses will be available at car registration.

The Jake Marine Memorial – and all Delaware International Speedway events – will be broadcast live on FloRacing (www.floracing.tv).
