N. Woodstock, NH — On another warm and sunny Saturday in August, the Thunder of White Mountain Motorsports Park brought the North Woodstock valley to life with the sights and sounds of stock car racing. Two more first time winners on the season emerged victorious as a couple of young guns made their presence known to their competitors.
The Wicked Good Vintage Racing Association brought 10 of their Outlaw-class teams to do battle on the White Mountain quarter-mile. Littleton, New Hampshire’s Matt Goseley took down the heat and feature win against teams from as far away as Florida, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Central Maine.
The Foley Oil & Propane Late Models had some invaders to contend with on Saturday night including former NASCAR Busch North Champion Jamie Aube, Flying Tiger standouts Mike Clark and Jaden Perry and current third-in-points pilot at Thunder Road Scott Dragon. Multi-time Kings of the Mountain Stacy Cahoon and Quinny Welch came away with heat race wins while Cahoon went on to also take the semi-feature win.
After leading the feature to green, rookie Bryan Wall Jr. spun around to bring the first caution on the field with the second caution flying at lap 19 for Mike Clark spinning on the exit of turn two. Jesse Switser took his 25NH Ford Mustang to the outside and never looked back, but it certainly wasn’t a runaway. Point leader Quinny Welch was right on his heels with rookie point leader Ryan Ware hot on his tail in third. As the laps wound down, it was desperation time for a podium finish. In the final five laps, Scott Dragon and Kasey Beattie ganged up on Ware in third, make it a three-wide battle for third until Ware got the hot set-up and finished third. Quinny Welch had a strong points day with his second-place finish and Jesse Switser getting his first win of the season.
In the Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers, veterans Matt Potter and Jason Woodard started off the day hot and heavy with heat race wins. Matt and cousin Chandler Potter would start the field off side-by-side for their 35-lap trophy dash. After having a terrible Thursday night at Thunder Road, Tanner Woodard began to make the best of his Saturday at White Mountain. Woodard methodically moved his way to the front of the field after starting seventh on the grid and took the lead over Mike Clark at the halfway point after the two had duked it out alongside each other for the first 18 laps. Tanner Woodard took down his second win of the season followed by Mike Clark and rookie point leader Kaiden Fisher.
The Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis were just as exciting after Jillian Baumgardner and Jack Hayes took down qualifying heat race wins. Led to green by Gavin McGinnis and Jillian Baumgardner, Baumgardner started off like a rocket and soon had the lead. While Jillian held down the top spot, her father Donnie was in the fight of his life for second-place with Kristian Switser and Les Washburn. The 25-lap feature went green to checkered in just under eight minutes with Jillian Baumgardner taking her first win of the season followed by Donnie Baumgardner and Les Washburn.
In possibly the most exciting Wayne’s Market Dwarf Car feature of the season, a usual winner fought some new competition. Once again using the Monza-style format of twin 20-lap features with an invert, the Dwarf Cars had the invasion of a lifetime. Originally pegged for Ryan Ware, Tyler Cahoon took over the #8 usually driven by Andy Hill while 2021 Strictly Mini Champion Luke Shannon returned to White Mountain for his Dwarf Car debut from the Wyman stable.
While Joey Deguio took down the Segment One win by just 9 one-thousandths of a second over point leader Jason Wyman, young Shannon came back ready for more and won Segment Two over the multi-time champion Wyman. Jason Wyman would win the overall with just four points to his credit followed by Luke Shannon and Dave Gyger, each with seven points but Shannon’s better finish in the second segment broke the tie between them.
White Mountain Motorsports Park will be taking its annual late-August break for Oxford 250 weekend on Saturday, August 27th. Thunder will return to the Mountains for the Foley Oil & Propane Leaf Peepers 100 on Saturday, September 3rd. Along with the Foley Oil & Propane Late Model 100-lapper, the GoMotorsportsShop.com NELCAR Legends Tour returns to White Mountain Motorsports Park for their second event of the season. Also on tap for Labor Day Weekend will be the Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers, Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis and Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division. More information will be released in the near future.
