(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Speedway kicked off the 54th NAPA Spring Sizzler® with NAPA Opening Day festivities that saw the Granite State ProStocks in the Casagrande Builders 75 along with Stafford’s weekly Late Models, Limited Late Models, and Street Stocks in feature action.  The SK Lights were also in action with a pair of 20-lap qualifying duel races that set the starting grid for their 30-lap feature on Sunday as part of the NAPA Spring Sizzler®.

In the Casagrande Builders 75 Granite State ProStock feature, Jeremy Sorel took the lead at the drop of the green flag but Dan Winter got into the frontstretch wall and Joey Kendall spun on the frontstretch to bring the caution flag out with 1 lap complete.

Sorel took the lead ahead of Cory Casagrande, Eddie MacDonald, Jimmy Hebert, and Casey Call.  The caution came back out with 2 laps complete for a multicar spin in turn 2 involving Adam Gray, Kevin Folan, and Matt Beers.

Sorel took the lead on the restart with MacDonald taking over second.  Casagrande was third but he did a 360 spin coming out of turn 2 to bring the caution flag back out with 3 laps complete.

MacDonald went door to door with Sorel on the restart and he led lap-4 by a nose before Sorel went back into the lead on lap-5.  Hebert moved into second with Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. taking third with MacDonald slipping back to fourth, just in front of Tom Carey, III.  Polewarczyk was applying heavy pressure to Hebert for second but Hebert was able to hold him off.  Jamie Wright did a 360 spin coming out of turn 4 on lap-9 but he kept moving and the race stayed green.

David Arute took sixth place from Angelo Belsito on lap-11 while Polewarczyk was still looking for a way around Hebert and Carey was holding up Arute and MacDonald in the fight for fourth place.  Carey took fourth with Arute taking fifth to drop Belsito back to sixth on lap-13 while Polewarczyk was finally able to get around Hebert and move into second behind Sorel.  Carey spun in turn 2 to bring the caution out with 15 laps complete after he and Arute touched while racing for fourth place.

The restart saw a melee erupt going down the backstretch going into turn 3 as Casagrande went around and collected the cars of Kendall, Beers, and Evan Beaulieu to bring the caution flag right back out.

Sorel took the lead on the restart with Polewarczyk right behind him in second.  Hebert was third in line with Belsito fourth and Arute fifth.  Arute took fourth from Belsito on lap-18 while Polewarczyk was applying heavy pressure to Sorel in the fight for the lead.  Sorel was still leading Polewarczyk with 25 laps complete and Hebert and Arute were still running third and fourth.  Carey was fifth with Belsito, MacDonald, Mike Scorzelli, Casey Call, and Alex Quarterly making up the top-10.

Polewarczyk’s car suddenly dropped off the pace on lap-35, which slowed Hebert enough that Arute was able to get by him to move into second.  Hebert retook second from Arute on lap-37 while Polewarczyk’s car got back up to speed with him in fourth place and Belsito fifth.

Arute made a move to the inside of Hebert to move into second place on lap-44 while Sorel was comfortably in the lead.  Belsito was finally able to make a move on Polewarczyk to take over fourth place on lap-45 with Carey following him by to take fifth and drop Polewarczyk back to sixth.

With 20 laps to go, Sorel enjoyed a 5 second lead over Arute in second with Hebert, Belsito, and Carey making up the top-5.  Polewarczyk was still hanging tough in sixth followed by MacDonald, Scorzelli, Call, and Alex Quarterly.

Sorel led the field to the checkered flag to pick up a dominating feature victory in the Casagrande Builders 75.  Arute finished second with Hebert, Carey, and Belsito rounding out the top-5.

In the 30-lap Late Model feature event, Chris Meyer and Adam Gray led the field to the green flag and Meyer took the early lead with Michael Bennett taking second.  Chris Buffone took third with Gray falling back to fourth, just in front of Wayne Coury, Jr.  Gray got together with Josh Wood and hit the backstretch wall with heavy damage to his right front.  Gray limped back to pit road as did Wood so the race stayed green.  Bennett spun coming out of turn 4 and fell to the rear of the field as he kept moving and the race stayed green.  Buffone was now second behind Meyer with Darrell Keane third, Paul Varricchio, Jr. fourth, and Coury fifth.  Varricchio got loose in turn 4 on lap-7, which allowed Coury to overtake him and move into fourth place.

With the race hitting the lap-10 mark, Buffone was closing down the gap to Meyer and he was right behind Meyer as they navigated lap-13.  Keane was still third with Coury and Varricchio making up the top-5.  With 10 laps to go, Buffone was still giving chase to Meyer.  The two cars touched on lap-21 with Buffone working his way past Meyer to take over the race lead.  Coury was closing in on Keane for third behind the two leaders with Varricchio holding off Kevin Gambacorta and Michael Wray for fifth place.

Once in the lead, Buffone slowly pulled away from Meyer and he scored victory in the first Late Model feature of the 2026 season.  Meyer finished second with Keane, Coury, and Varricchio rounding out the top-5.

In the first 20-lap NAPA SK Light duel feature event, Nick Anglace took the early lead with Brian Sullivan going wheel to wheel with Bob Charland for second.  A multicar spin in turn 4 involving Travis Downey, Zach Aszklar, Jake Hines, and Jason Finkbein brought the caution flag out with 1 lap complete.

Anglace took the lead back under green with Sullivan taking second.  Charland was third with David Webb fourth and Chris Matthews fifth.  Charland spun coming out of turn 4 to bring the caution flag out with 4 laps complete.

Sullivan went wheel to wheel with Anglace on the restart with Anglace maintaining the lead by a nose.  Joey Ferrigno and Aszklar made contact on the backstretch with Aszklar getting into the wall and Ferrigno suffering a damaged right front to bring the caution back out with 6 laps complete.

Sullivan powered his way in front of Anglace to take the lead on the restart but Anglace came right back the following lap to retake the lead from Sullivan.  Matthews was riding in third with Dylan Houghton up to fourth and Peter Bennett fifth.  David Webb and Eddie Gomarlo touched in turn 4 with both cars going around to bring the caution flag out with 9 laps complete.

Anglace fended off a challenge from Sullivan on the restart to maintain the lead while Houghton made a move to take second from Sullivan.  Matthews was now side by side with Sullivan for third with Bennett in fifth.  Matthews took third on lap-12 and Bennett was now side by side with Sullivan for fourth place.  Matthews was starting to pick up his pace as he took second from Houghton on lap-14 while Anglace continued to lead the race.  Bennett took fourth place from Sullivan on lap-16 while Hines got into the turn 4 wall but kept moving and the race stayed green.  The caution came back out with 18 laps complete as Stephen Kalogiannis got loose and spun around which collected Paul Arcari and Gomarlo.

Anglace took the lead back under green with Matthews taking second.  Houghton was locked in a wheel to wheel duel with Bennett for third with Sullivan lurking behind them in fifth place.  Houghton took third on the final lap while Anglace led Matthews to the checkered flag to win the first NAPA SK Light Duel.  Houghton finished third with Bennett and Sullivan rounding out the top-5.

In the second 20-lap NAPA SK Light duel feature event, Norm Sears spun on the first lap and collected the car of Ben Morrison to bring the caution flag out.

Sami Anderson took the lead on the restart with Robert Bloxsom, III, Casey Vogt, Daltin McCarthy, and Tyler Barry behind him.  Austin Goff spun in turn 2 but was able to keep moving and the race stayed green.  The caution did come out with 4 laps complete as Aiden D’Agata spun coming out of turn 2.

Anderson took the lead with Bloxsom hanging tough in the outside lane.  Anderson got clear into the lead on lap-6 with McCarthy moving into second.  Bloxsom fell back a spot to third with Barry and Vogt side by side for fourth place.  Norm Sears spun but kept going and the race stayed green.  Barry got clear from Vogt on lap-9 and he then moved to the inside of Bloxsom on lap-10 to take third.  Up front McCarthy had closed in right on the back bumper of Anderson in the fight for the lead while Amanda West, Vogt, and Ben Morabito were nose to tail fighting for fifth place.

McCarthy and Anderson were fighting hard for the lead with McCarthy looking high and low for a way to get around but Anderson was up to the challenge and maintained the lead.  McCarthy was finally able to make a move stick and he took the lead on lap-18.  The caution flew with 18 laps complete for an incident on the backstretch involving the cars of Morabito, Kevin Davis, and D’Agata.

McCarthy took the lead on the restart while West made a strong move to pull alongside Barry for second.  McCarthy led the duo to the checkered flag to win the race while Barry took second at the line by inches over West.  Anderson finished fourth with Vogt rounding out the top-5.

In the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature event, Jason Lafayette and Jeremy Lavoie led the field to the green flag but before the field could complete the first lap, Devon Jencik spun in turn 3 and collected his brother Conor Jencik to bring the caution flag out.

Lafayette took the lead on the restart with Lavoie right behind him in second.  Norm Root, III took third with Rich Hammann and Daryl Vertefeuille side by side for fourth place.  Just behind them was Adrien Paradis, III in sixth.  Hammann took fourth on lap-3 while Paradis went to the outside of Vertefeuille to move into fifth on lap-4.  Matt Clement went around in turn 4 to bring the caution flag out with 4 laps complete.

Lafayette and Lavoie again took the top-2 spots on the restart while Hammann got loose in turn 3 and slid back several spots outside the top-5.  Root was third with Paradis in fourth and Vertefeuille fifth.  RJ Surdell went around in turn 3 to bring the caution flag back out with 7 laps complete.

Lafayette got the jump on the restart again to maintain the lead while Root nearly took second from Lavoie before slotting back into line behind Lavoie in third place.  The caution flag came back out with 9 laps complete as Scott Clement and Shelby Swan spun in turn 2 and Vertefeuille got loose in turn 3 which collected Gary Patnode and then the car of Tim Poulin.

Lafayette again took the lead and again Lavoie fended off a challenge from Root for second.  Paradis was fourth behind the three leaders with Aaron Plemons up to fifth.  Plemons took fourth from Paradis on lap-11.  Travis Hydar followed Plemons past Paradis to move into fifth and he nearly took fourth from Plemons after a little rubbing between the two cars but Plemons was able to keep the position.  Vertefeuille and Surdell got hooked together and got into the turn 3 wall to bring the caution flag back out with 14 laps complete.

Lafayette maintained the lead on the restart with Lavoie, Root, and Hydar behind him.  Plemons spun in turn 1 while Matt Clement spun in turn 3 to bring the caution flag back out with 15 laps complete.

Lafayette took the lead with Lavoie and Root behind him.  Paradis took fourth from Hydar with Hydar now fighting with Hammann for fifth place.  Hammann took fifth on lap-17 and that opened the door for Matt Clement to pull alongside Hydar for sixth.  Scott Clement spun in turn 2 to bring the caution flag out with 17 laps complete.

Lafayette was again picture perfect on the restart while Root nearly took second from Lavoie before settling back into line in third.  Dave Secore, Jr. made a move to the inside of Paradis on lap-19 but got loose on the final lap and fell back to fifth as Lafayette took the checkered flag to win the first race of the 2026 season.  Coming to the checkered flag, Hydar took a hit into the turn 4 wall as Lavoie, Root, Paradis, and Secore rounded out the top-5 behind Lafayette.

In the 20-lap Street Stock feature event, PJ Evans led the field to the green flag and he took the lead on the break into turn 1 but he was overtaken by Ryan Waterman going down the backstretch.  Waterman led the first lap with Evans, Marvin Minkler, Bill Cote, and Brandon Warren lined up behind him.

Cote went by Minkler on lap-3 to move into third place and that move opened the door for Warren to take fourth and drop Minkler back to fifth place.  Jason Raymond took fifth from Minkler on lap-4 while Waterman was starting to stretch out his lead over Evans.

At the halfway point of the race, Waterman was still out front with Evans, Cote, and Warren fighting nose to tail for second with Raymond still fifth.  Andras Bogi spun coming out of turn 4 but he was able to keep going and the race stayed green.  Evans slid up the track in turn 4 on lap-15 which saw him slide backwards to fourth place as Warren took second and Cote third.  The caution flag flew for the first time with 15 laps complete for a spin in turn 4 by Roger Mahieu.

Waterman took the lead back under green but he got loose in turn 4, allowing Warren to power his way into the lead.  Cote took second with Waterman getting back into line in third.  Cote dove to the inside of Warren in turn 1 on lap-19 in a move for the lead but he got loose and spun, which collected both cars and brought the caution flag back out.  This put Waterman back into the lead for the subsequent restart with Gleason now second, Evans third, and Raymond fourth.

Gleason drifted up the track on the restart and slid back outside the top-5.  Waterman took the lead with Raymond and Evans behind him.  Charles Beal and Kolton Gambacorta spun on the final lap but Waterman led Raymond to the checkered flag to win the first race of the 2026 season.  Evans finished third with Caprio and Scott Sundeen rounding out the top-5.
