STSS AWARDS BANQUET SET FOR JAN. 25 AT TURNING STONE

VERONA, NY – The extravagant Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, N.Y., will host the 2022 Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco ‘Night of Champions’ on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

Tickets are available now for the STSS gala, being held at the plush Turning Stone complex for the first time ever.

The star of the show will be ‘Super Matt’ Sheppard of Savannah, N.Y., who completed an incredible season that included championships the STSS River Valley Builders North Region ($15,000), STSS Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply South Region ($15,000), and the STSS Halmar International ‘Elite’ Series ($25,000).

In the River Valley Builders North Region, Sheppard was trailed by Mat Williamson (St. Catharines, Ont.), Anthony Perrego (Montgomery, N.Y.), Mike Mahaney (Elizabethtown, N.Y.), Dan Creeden (Wurtsboro, N.Y.), Andy Bachetti (Sheffield, Mass.), Bobby Hackel (East Greenbush, N.Y.), Max McLaughlin (Mooresville, N.C.), Stewart Friesen (Sprakers, N.Y.), Brett Haas (Pittsfield, Mass.), David Schilling (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and J.R. Hurlburt (Otego, N.Y.).

The Hurlock Auto & Speed South Region saw Sheppard best Ryan Godown (Ringoes, N.J.), Mike Gular (Boyertown, Pa.), Danny Bouc (Pipersville, Pa.), Mahaney, Ryan Watt (Boyertown, Pa.), Friesen, Matt Stangle (Neshanic Station, N.J.), Perrego, Brandon Grosso (Belle Mead, N.J.), Jordan Watson (Milford, Del.) and Alex Yankowski (Covington Township, Pa.).

Sheppard claimed the inaugural ‘Elite’ Series championship over Godown, Williamson, McLaughlin, Friesen, Perrego, Mahaney, Yankowski, Rocky Warner (Gloversville, N.Y.), Creeden, Jimmy Horton (Neshanic Station, N.J.) and Bachetti.

All top-12 STSS Modified competitors must have driver or car owner present to collect point fund cash and contingencies.

The accompanying Ollie’s ‘Cajun Region’ based in Texas and Louisiana was topped by Caleb Dillard of Robeline, La., for the second consecutive year.

STSS Crate 602 Sportsman champions will also be celebrated at the ‘Night of Champions’ event.

Steve Davis of Cream Ridge, N.J., was consistent all season with the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman Precision Hydraulic & Oil North Region, scoring four top-five finishes in seven events completed.

Joe Toth of Newtown, Pa., topped the Belmont’s Garage STSS South Region six-race series for the second straight season driving for Andy Belmont.
