With a Nor’ Easter barreling towards Long Island just in time for the weekend, Riverhead Raceway officials announced Friday morning their doubleheader of racing planned Saturday & Sunday has been canceled. The Cecil Palm Tree 160 event for the NASCAR Modifieds, a Crown Jewel Series event will be downsized to a 66-lap affair and move to Championship Saturday September 30th. The Sunday Championship Day now slides over to Sunday October 1st.

“Right from Monday the forecast for this weekend has been a bomb” track GM John Ellwood, “we hoped as the week went along it might change, it only got worse”. Track officials quickly went to work on modifying the Cecil Palm Tree event run in honor of the late Eddie Partridge into Championship Saturday. “With six race winners and potentially six champions to interview next week as we traditionally have on Championship night, we felt trimming the NASCAR Modifieds back to 66 laps was our best option” Ellwood offered.

In addition to the Cecil Palm Tree 66, in action Championship Night are the Late Models, Eagle Chevrolet Crate Modifieds, Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks and INEX Legend Race Cars.

Part two of what now become Championship Weekend unfolds Sunday afternoon. The Street Stocks and Mini Stocks not only crown a track champion for the season but also compete in the third and final leg of the Miller Lite Triple Crown Series. The Bock Auto INEX Bandolero Bandits and Outlaws will see action and crown their 2023 champions with the Truck Enduros, 8-Cylinder Enduros and 4/6-Cylinder Gut & Go classes all doing the same. Track management disclosed that there will be no extra practice available to Saturday night teams on Sunday.

Complete race day itineraries will be available on http://www.riverheadraceway.com where the 2023 championship standings heading into the final weekend of racing can also be viewed. Emails reach us at office @riverheadraceway.com, the phone number remains 631-842-RACE.
