Wall Township, NJ – For the second straight race Blake Barney of Jackson, NJ topped the NASCAR Modified field on Saturday night at Wall Stadium leading flag-to-flag in a 40-lap feature event that was run off caution free.
Barney took the lead at the start from outside pole sitter Teddy Cranmer. Barney went to work right away building his lead as he looked for his second straight NASCAR Modified win on the Wall Stadium high-banks.
While Barney built up his lead, that left Cranmer to fend off challenges from both Jimmy and James Blewett. Jimmy would get under Cranmer making a hole for son, James, Eddie McCarthy and Jarret DiGiantomasso shuffling Cramner’s No. 59 outside of the top five.
Up front, Barney would hit slower traffic while James Blewett put the pressure on Jimmy for the runner-up spot.
Over the final laps, Barney would remain untouched as he raced to his second straight win while the Blewett’s ran side by side with James coming out on top over Jimmy. Derek Hopkinson raced to a fourth place finish while eighth starting Steven Reed took fifth.
In the 30-lap special for the Surfside Collision 4-Cylinders, Kevin Carr took the early lead from the outside pole with opening night winner Billy Pross taking over second with Mike Lavery in third. Pross would chase after Carr waiting for him to make a mistake so that he could pounce and take over the top spot.
As the two leaders came up on slower traffic after the halfway point, Pross would look to the inside of Carr as Carr did the same with the slower car causing the leaders to touch and slide through turns three and four in unison with Carr maintaining the lead allowing Lavery to rejoin the fight for the lead.
A late race restart would allow Pross to take command and pull away to his second straight victory over Sal Ligouri who overcame an opening lap spin. Lavery finished third with Carr and Ian Ashford completing the top five.
Alex Rogers brought the field to green in the O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stock 25-lap feature event with Cody Critelli in second while Elliott Wohl and Patrick Force battled for third.
Wohl would take over the spot prior to Critelli slowing on the backstretch a few laps later to bring out the caution.
On the restart, Wohl would power around Rogers to take the lead bringing three-time champion Bryan O’Shea with him. Fifth-starting Nick Bilello would be the man on the move as he shot from his fifth starting spot to challenge O’Shea for the runner-up spot.
As O’Shea would settle into a rhythm, he would pull away from Bilello and set his sights on the leader, Wohl.
O’Shea would then reel Wohl in and take command as the leaders received the two-to-go signal. O’Shea would go on to take the win over Wohl, Bilello, Rogers and Kevin Flores.
Tyler Ferris and Kyle Taraska brought the ATQMRA Midget field to green with Ferris getting the early jump and opening night winner Geoffrey Sutton sliding into third
Taraska would not let Ferris get away though as he stayed on the back bumper of the No. 7 before showing the nose of his Lenny and Donna Boyd owned No. 1B to the bottom of Ferris in turn one on lap 13 to secure the lead for good.
With Ferris having to deal with Sutton for second, Taraska would pull away to almost a full straightaway lead in closing laps to secure his seventh career victory at Wall Stadium.
Ferris came home in second with Sutton, Blake Barney and Joey Payne Jr. completing the top five.
